Should I Buy Games on Steam?

Updated: Mar 22

Since 2003, Steam has given us a multi-functional, user-friendly and free platform for PC gamers to enjoy their favourite games. But with so many alternative options like Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store and now available, is steam still your first choice?

For us, the answer is yes, and here’s why:

1. Built in browser

One of the main USP’s of Steam is the built-in browser feature. This allows you to search the internet without having to leave the platform or open and flick through multiple tabs.

2. Chat with others

While this feature is also available on numerous Steam alternatives, it really is one of the highlights of using these platforms. Not only that, but discussion forums and trading forums offer a community of people sharing your interests.

3. Your money goes to the studio

The predominant and most obvious reason we buy games on Steam instead of… those less regulated websites… is because your money is actually going to the developer or studio in recognition of their work. Not only this but it’s a far more safe, reliable and convenient way to access the games you want and keep them in one place.

Steam also has strict buyer protection rules ensuring no-questions-asked refunds are issued for games played for less than 2 hours and owned for less than 14 days. Games that go over these thresholds can also be refunded depending on circumstances.

4. Fraud protection

While the mobile authenticator app may be decidedly inconvenient, Steam has said it’s been highly effective at combating fraud and protecting users.

5. There are always sales

That’s right! We love a Steam sale and there are a lot of them. Not only do Steam hold seasonal and holiday sales, but you’ll also see an end of week of mid-week sale frequently. Plus, like with movies or books, you’re likely to see drastic discounts 6 months to 1 year after the release of a new game.

6. Access on multiple devices

All your games are stored in one place on the Steam server, and you can access them on all your devices, some games even on multiple devices at the same time. So, if you’ve been enjoying a 3-day gaming marathon on your PC and want to pick it up on your mobile, then this is very easy.

Concluding thoughts…

Overall, Steam has been around for a long time now and is our go-to platform for PC gaming, offering a reliable and safe place to keep and access all your games; and communicate with others who share your passion for gaming.
